Buhari writes Senate, seeks approval to pay N226bn, $556.8m, £98.5m judgement debts

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate, seeking the approval of the request to pay the judgement debt in the sum of $566,754,584.31, £98,526,012.00 and N226,281,801,881.64 owed by the Federal government.


President Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read yesterday in Abuja by the  President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

MultiChoice Nigeria , the popular entertainment and satellite television service provider, has been slammed with a hefty fine of ₦766 million by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) over violations of the country's Data Protection Act . The development marks a major move by Nigerian authorities to uphold data privacy and ensure organizations are held accountable for mishandling personal data. The NDPC’s investigation revealed that MultiChoice was involved in what it described as " intrusive data processing " practices. These included collecting and handling the personal data of both subscribers and non-subscribers without proper consent. Furthermore, the commission found evidence that MultiChoice engaged in cross-border transfers of Nigerian citizens’ data without complying with legal protocols. A Nigerian woman, identified as @dunchichi on Twitter, has been reportedly sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a social media post, showing how some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained at Dubai international airport.  On August 31, Lar had taken to her  Twitter  page to share photos and videos of herself and other people she identified as Nigerians being detained at the Dubai international airport. She wrote,  “I am at the Dubai international airport and myself and some tiger Nigerians with valid visas are being held in a room hours after arriving with no explanation and no information on what we can do.
