APC Chairman Ganduje Resigns Amid Party Tensions and Leadership Shifts

In a major political development, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially resigned from his position. His resignation, which took effect on Friday, June 27, 2025, comes amid growing internal tensions within the party and speculation over future leadership dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to official sources, Ganduje cited health concerns as the reason for his exit. However, insiders within the APC suggest that his departure was influenced by mounting pressure from within the party and the presidency. One of the key issues was the controversial planned defection of his longtime political rival, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the APC. Ganduje was reportedly opposed to Kwankwaso’s inclusion in the party, a stance that placed him at odds with other influential members.

Following his resignation, Alhaji Bukar Dalori, who previously served as the Deputy National Chairman (North), has assumed the role of Acting National Chairman, in accordance with the APC constitution. The party is expected to convene a special convention in the coming months to elect a new substantive chairman.

There is also speculation that Ganduje may be appointed to an ambassadorial role by President Bola Tinubu, a move seen by analysts as part of a broader political realignment within the ruling party.

Reactions have poured in since the announcement. Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, described Ganduje’s resignation as a rare act of responsibility, praising him for prioritizing his health and stepping aside to allow for party stability.

As the APC moves toward selecting a new leader, all eyes are now on the party's next steps. The decision could reshape internal power structures and set the tone for preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. One thing is certain: Ganduje’s resignation marks a turning point in APC’s leadership journey.
