Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has revealed the Nigerian politician he admires the most, naming the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as his favourite politician. The 79-year-old actor made the revelation during an interview with popular content creator Isbae U on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast. Blackout looms as Nigerian electricity workers join labour unions’ planned strike

  The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has directed its members to commence full mobilisation to ensure compliance with the directive of the Nigerian labour unions to embark on an indefinite strike. Nigeria’s organised labour had declared an indefinite nationwide strike to pressure the government to address the hardships associated with fuel subsidy removal. The NUEE in a notice signed by its acting general secretary, Dominic Igwebike, on Thursday, urged its members to comply with the directive and stop work from the early hours of Tuesday. The NUEE members’ strike could throw the country into darkness, given the workers’ critical roles in electricity distribution in the country.   The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has placed a ban on Nigeria’s October 1st independence anniversary celebrations across the Southeast. IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, urged people of the Southeast to shun the Independence Day celebration in the region. Powerful claimed that the Nigerian state detests Igbos and has rejected all efforts to treat people of the Southeast equally. In a statement signed by Powerful, IPOB urged state governors and political leaders to shun the October 1st independence day celebration across the Southeast. BREAKING: NLC, TUC declare nationwide strike

  The organised labour unions, comprising the Trade Union Congress, TUC, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have declared an indefinite strike effective from October 3, 2023. TUC President, Festus Osifo declared the strike at a joint press conference also attended by the President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero in Abuja on Tuesday. Ajaero, who spoke first, carpeted the Federal Government over what he described as lackadaisical stance to address demands raised by the unions since the subsidy removal policy took effect. He accused the government of deliberate refusal to engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue within the ambits of good faith during the 21 days ultimatum and the subsequent successful 2-day nationwide warning strike on the 5th and 6th of September 2023. APC Forum Warns Wike Against Actions Inimical To Party, Region’s Interests

  The North Central APC Forum, under the aegis of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against taking any actions or making moves inimical to the interest of the party or the North Central region. Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, stated this in Jos, the Plateau State capital, after an emergency meeting to assess and review the election tribunal judgements and how the APC has fared so far.   The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted fresh attempts by members of some transnational drug trafficking organisations to export various quantities of methamphetamine and skunk through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, and courier companies in Lagos. This is even as NDLEA announced that an intending passenger, Ugwu Peter Tochukwu, was arrested with drugs while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Oman on Tuesday. The anti-narcotic agency explained that 7.50 kilograms of skunk were discovered concealed inside crayfish mixed with dry bitter leaf upon a thorough search of the suspect’s luggage.   The Osun State Police Command has appealed to indigenes of Ilobu and Ifon Orolu communities to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their hands over the killing of one Sodiq Alamu. It was reported that 28 year old Alamu was killed along Opapa village in Ilobu on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Alamu hailed from Aganna compound in Ilobu, Irepodun local government area of Osun State. The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the police was aware of the incident and assured that investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances which led to Alamu’s death. A Nigerian woman, identified as @dunchichi on Twitter, has been reportedly sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a social media post, showing how some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained at Dubai international airport.  On August 31, Lar had taken to her  Twitter  page to share photos and videos of herself and other people she identified as Nigerians being detained at the Dubai international airport.
