Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has revealed the Nigerian politician he admires the most, naming the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as his favourite politician. The 79-year-old actor made the revelation during an interview with popular content creator Isbae U on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast. The interview, which was published on September 5, 2026, touched on several aspects of Edochie’s life, career, politics and his views about Nigeria. Although Pete Edochie stated that he is not a politician and does not consider himself interested in politics, he made an exception when asked about the Nigerian political figure he admired most. Tinubu lauds six Nigerians for winning prestigious US science award

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday praised six Nigerian researchers and specialists who were named among the 400 beneficiaries of the Official Early Vocation Grant for Researchers and Architects (PECASE) by U.S. President Joe Biden.


The current year's awardees, declared by President Joe Biden on January 14, 2025, are utilized or subsidized by 14 taking an interest US government offices.


The Nigerian honourees incorporate Azeez Butali, Gilbert Lilly Enriched Teacher of Analytic Sciences, School of Dentistry, College of Iowa; Ijeoma Opara, Associate Professor Of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences), Yale School of Public Health, Yale University; and Oluwatomi Akindele, Postdoctoral reseacher at Lawrence Livermore National Lab.


Others are Eno Ebong, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biology at Northeastern College; Oluwasanmi Koyejo, Assistant Professor of computer science at Stanford College; and Abidemi Ajiboye, Executive vice chair of the Case School of Engineering, Branch of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University.


Tinubu, in an explanation by his representative, Bayo Onanuga, recognized the honorees for their remarkable accomplishments in science, innovation, and designing.


He noticed that perceiving these extraordinary abilities highlights Nigerians' huge potential to succeed both at home and on the worldwide stage.


Tinubu added that he anticipates the honorees sharing their multidisciplinary ability to help Nigeria's advancement endeavors under the Restored Trust Plan.


This renowned acknowledgment, laid out by previous President Bill Clinton in 1996, is the most elevated honor gave by the US government on exceptional researchers and designers in the beginning phases of their vocations.

Dubai Jails Nigerian Lady For Filming Maltreatment, Family Kicks

A Nigerian woman, identified as @dunchichi on Twitter, has been reportedly sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a social media post, showing how some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained at Dubai international airport.  On August 31, Lar had taken to her  Twitter  page to share photos and videos of herself and other people she identified as Nigerians being detained at the Dubai international airport. She wrote,  “I am at the Dubai international airport and myself and some tiger Nigerians with valid visas are being held in a room hours after arriving with no explanation and no information on what we can do. MultiChoice Nigeria , the popular entertainment and satellite television service provider, has been slammed with a hefty fine of ₦766 million by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) over violations of the country's Data Protection Act . The development marks a major move by Nigerian authorities to uphold data privacy and ensure organizations are held accountable for mishandling personal data. The NDPC’s investigation revealed that MultiChoice was involved in what it described as " intrusive data processing " practices. These included collecting and handling the personal data of both subscribers and non-subscribers without proper consent. Furthermore, the commission found evidence that MultiChoice engaged in cross-border transfers of Nigerian citizens’ data without complying with legal protocols.
