Traditional ruler in Bayelsa sleeps in car as floods sack palace

His Highness, Amos Poubinafa, traditional ruler of Tungbo town in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa now sleeps in his car as floods have sacked him from his palace. “I have been sleeping in my Toyota Sienna for two weeks since the flood ravaged the palace. “It reached the knee level and made the palace uninhabitable,’’ the retired naval officer told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Tungbo. “The car is the only safe place for me; the entire building is flooded and there is no safer place for me to sleep. “My family has been relocated to Yenagoa. As the Captain on board (traditional ruler) this vessel, I cannot abandon my subjects to seek alternative abode outside the town. “By my training as a naval officer, I am not expected to abandon the crew I am leading in my vessel. Dubai Jails Nigerian Lady For Filming Maltreatment, Family Kicks

A Nigerian woman, identified as @dunchichi on Twitter, has been reportedly sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a social media post, showing how some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained at Dubai international airport.  On August 31, Lar had taken to her  Twitter  page to share photos and videos of herself and other people she identified as Nigerians being detained at the Dubai international airport. She wrote,  “I am at the Dubai international airport and myself and some tiger Nigerians with valid visas are being held in a room hours after arriving with no explanation and no information on what we can do. Late Osinachi Was Physically, Verbally Abused By Husband – Employees Allege

  Two employees of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, today Tuesday, October 11, told a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja that her husband, Peter Nwachukwu verbally and physically abused her.   Osinachi who was popular for her gospel song ''Ekwueme'' died on April 8. Her husband. Mr. Nwachukwu is currently standing trial on a 23-count charge bordering on domestic violence and culpable homicide. He has been accused of being responsible for the death of the late gospel singer.  The Liberian Immigration Service has handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). e leven surviving Nigerians from a stowaway party of 13 via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after allegedly being tortured on board the cargo vessel ‘Ophelia Panama’ registration (IMO9228083) ( MMIA). The stowaways identified as Seyi Popoola, Precious Uwalogho, Ayetimiyi Kelvin, Stephen Junior, Emmanuel Benjamin, Balogun Gbenga, Temiotan Adewale, Igiebor Stephen, Hamza John, Alfred Ese and Ogechi Chika, had entered the basement of a cargo ship named Ophelia Panama, at Tin Can Island Port in Apapa, Lagos on the 7th of September, thinking it was heading to Europe. Nigeria Has Only Recovered Only A Fraction Of Looted Funds Abroad - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that only a fraction of Nigeria's looted funds stashed abroad has been recovered.   In an article titled ‘The West Must Return Africa’s Stolen Assets As Well As Its Artefacts’, published by Financial Times on October 5, the President noted that the clamour for repatriation of looted treasures is becoming irresistible.      He stated that there is a need to review the process for the return of stolen loot, adding that Africans can be trusted to preserve their assets and cultural heritage. Buhari said;   “Nigerians were delighted by the news this summer that 72 artefacts, known as the Benin Bronzes, held by the Horniman Museum in London were returning home, 125 years after being plundered by British troops. The clamour for repatriation of looted treasures is becoming irresistible. “There was once a similar clamour for the return of Africa’s stolen assets, and I see both as part of the same struggle to bring back to Nigeria what is rightfully ours.

  Former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has warned against petrol subsidy which he said is having a negative impact on the nation’s economy.
