  Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, has said it would henceforth rusticate any student who violates the university code of conduct and dress code as contained in the revised student’s handbook. The revised rules are contained in an internal memo signed by the dean of Students Affairs of the university, Professor U.S. Abdullahi, dated April 27, 2023, and addressed to the president of the Students Union Government and all students of the university. The dean warned the students and members of the university community against violating the rules, approved during the 161st regular Senate Meeting of the institution held on April 13, 2023. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has filed a preliminary objection to a suit instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and a chieftain of the opposition party, Senator Dino Melaye, seeking an order of mandamus to compel the anti-drug agency to arrest and prosecute President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over alleged forfeiture of some funds in his bank accounts over two decades ago in the United States. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, earlier scheduled for May 3-7 2023, to a date to be determined by the incoming administration. The President gave the approval after meeting with some members of the Federal Executive Council and the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and his team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, April 28, 2023. Abdurazak Olaniyi Oladotun, a teacher at Sudan, who made the appeal in a short video obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, disclosed that after a set of vehicles left with some Nigerians to Egypt on Wednesday morning, no other vehicle had returned to evacuate other Nigerians. Oladotun lamented that there had been missing gaps in communication, while pleading with the officials of the embassy to forgive the wrongs the youths might have committed for the sake of children and pregnant women among them and save their lives. Sudan crisis: 10 Nigerians among 2,544 evacuated to Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has evacuated a total of 2,544 persons from Sudan following the outbreak of a military conflict in the country. Among the  2,544 persons evacuated from Sudan, 119 are Saudi citizens while 2,425 are from 74 countries including 10 from Nigeria. This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Nigeria on Friday, April 28. It reads in part, “In continuation of the evacuation efforts being made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the directives of the Kingdom’s Leaderships, more evacuees continue to arrive at Jeddah Port from the Republic of Sudan on Thursday, bringing the total number of evacuees from Sudan since the evacuations began at approximately 2544 persons, 119 are Saudi citizens while 2425 are from 74 countries among which 10 are from Nigeria. “The evacuees are from the following nationalities: Nigeria, Netherlands, Russia, and Lebanon.   The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Abubakar Malami, on Thursday, appeared before the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the alleged loss of over $2.4billion in unremitted oil revenue. The lawmakers are investigating revenue from the reported illegal sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil export from 2014 till date. The chairman of the House Committee, Mark Gbillah, on Thursday announced that Malami would face the lawmakers on April 27, saying that the committee obtained reports that the AGF received funds from outside Nigeria through the whistleblower policy but did not remit the funds to the federation account. According to Gbillah, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, also approved payments to whistleblowers which were not in accordance with the policy. The announcement by the Michaelis dictionary was part of a campaign that gathered more than 125,000 signatures to honour his impact beyond football. For the world's 265 million Portuguese speakers, 'pele' can now be used to denote something or someone extraordinary for which it is already employed informally in Brazil. Under the new entry, the word is defined as 'exceptional, incomparable, unique', qualities associated with 'The King' of football.   The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, conducted the first batch of screening and orientation of potential medical team members for the 2023 Hajj. The exercise took place today, 27th April 2023 with 212 applicants invited for verification. Principal officers led by Dr Usman Galadima of the Federal Ministry of Health, who is also the Chief of Medical Operations of the National Medical Team (NMT), screened documents of the successful doctors, pharmacists and nurses that would form the NMT. The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on the appeal of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to May 11, 2023. One of Kanu’s lawyers, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Thursday morning in a short statement said the Supreme Court would today (Thursday) hear Kanu’s appeal over “the continued illegal detention of our indefatigable Client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. “We are very firm in our belief that the Almighty ChukwuOkike Abiama (God) will take absolute control of today’s proceedings. His Grace will prevail in judgment over today's outing at the Supreme Court.”  Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, counsel for Kanu, had asked the Supreme Court to be guided by equity, justice and good conscience while ruling on Kanu’s appeal on his continued detention by the Nigerian Government today (Thursday). NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Substandard Cough Syrup In Circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has alerted Nigerians about a suspected substandard cough syrup called ‘Naturcold’ manufactured by Franken Group. In a press statement on its website, National Agency For Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) disclosed that the cough syrup was purchased from unauthorized sources because it was not authorized for marketing in Cameroon.  The cough syrup is believed to have caused the deaths of six children under the age of five at a health facility in the health district of Fundong, in the North-West region of Cameroon.
