PELLER CAUSES STIR AFTER CALLING HIMSELF JESUS CHRIST – LEBANESE MAN WARNS HIM, HE FINALLY APOLOGISES!
Nigerian social media sensation and popular TikTok streamer, Peller, has once again found himself at the centre of controversy following a livestream that has generated heated reactions across social media.
This time, the controversy revolves around religion after Peller appeared dressed in an outfit resembling the traditional portrayal of Jesus Christ and began presenting himself as Jesus during a livestream.
The incident has attracted criticism from viewers, particularly Christians, who questioned why the young entertainer would use such a sacred religious figure for entertainment.
What appeared to be another attempt to entertain his audience soon turned into an uncomfortable moment when a Lebanese man who was present cautioned him against his actions.
HOW THE CONTROVERSY STARTED
During the livestream, Peller appeared in a white and red outfit, complete with a wig, resembling the familiar appearance of Jesus Christ in some religious illustrations.
He reportedly asked people to address him as Jesus Christ.
As the livestream continued, people interacted with him, calling on him and making requests, while the unusual performance attracted attention.
However, not everyone found the situation entertaining.
A Lebanese man who was present reportedly took issue with Peller's behaviour and cautioned him against disrespecting religion.
The man made it clear that religious beliefs should not be treated carelessly, especially by someone with such a large social media following.
Rather than immediately accepting the warning, Peller attempted to defend his actions.
He argued about his appearance and questioned why wearing the outfit should be considered offensive.
The exchange quickly became one of the most talked-about parts of the livestream.
WHY PELLER SAID HE DRESSED LIKE JESUS
Following the criticism, Peller explained that he had seen other people wearing outfits portraying Jesus Christ and decided to do something similar.
According to his explanation, he did not expect his own appearance to generate such a serious reaction.
However, many viewers felt that there was a difference between wearing a costume for entertainment and asking people to address you as Jesus Christ.
For many Christians, Jesus Christ is not simply a character or a costume. He is central to their faith, and they believe that references to Him should be handled with respect.
The incident therefore raised questions about the boundaries between entertainment, comedy and religious sensitivity.
PELLER FINALLY APOLOGISES
After the video attracted widespread criticism, Peller came out to apologise, particularly to Christians who felt offended by his actions.
In his apology video, he expressed regret and said he never knew that wearing the white outfit would cause such a problem.
He repeatedly asked Christians to forgive him, explaining that he had no intention of disrespecting their religion.
Peller also spoke about his religious background, saying that he attends Christ Apostolic Church and loves Christians. He additionally made a confusing reference to being Muslim on one side.
His apology, however, did not completely settle the controversy, as some social media users questioned whether he fully understood why people were offended. <Cite refs={["turn970282search2","turn970282search3","turn970282search5"]}/>
SOCIAL MEDIA REACTIONS
As expected, Nigerians have continued to share their opinions about the incident.
While some people believe Peller was simply trying to create entertaining content and did not intend to hurt anyone, others believe that religious figures and sacred beliefs should not be used carelessly to generate online attention.
Some viewers have also praised the Lebanese man for speaking up and cautioning Peller instead of simply joining the performance.
The incident has once again raised an important question about the responsibility that comes with having millions of followers.
Being a content creator means having an audience that includes people from different religious, cultural and social backgrounds. What one person considers a joke may be deeply offensive to another.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Peller has apologised, but the incident has continued to generate conversations.
Do you think Peller genuinely did not understand the religious implications of his actions, or should he have known better before making such content?
And do you think the Lebanese man was right to caution him during the livestream?
