Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Nigeria’s Growing Debt Crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honored the Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
At a grand reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President conferred the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player and official of the team. He also announced $100,000 cash rewards and three-bedroom bungalows for each team member in a location of their choice within Nigeria.
The Super Falcons recently defeated Morocco 2–1 in the WAFCON final, securing their 12th title, the highest by any African women’s team. Their victory was celebrated nationwide, with fans and government officials praising their determination and resilience.
President Tinubu, in his remarks, said:
“You have made Nigeria proud. This is not just a win on the field; it is a victory of resilience, courage, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. You have become role models to young girls across Africa.”
He further encouraged more support for women in sports and assured the team of his administration’s commitment to sports development, especially at the grassroots and female levels.
The event was attended by top government officials, members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and stakeholders in the sports sector. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and appreciation for the Super Falcons, who have continued to make history and inspire a new generation.
This gesture by the government is being hailed as a major boost for women’s sports in Nigeria and a sign of recognition for their global success.
The players expressed their gratitude to the President and dedicated their win to all Nigerians who supported them throughout the tournamnts.
