Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi , has once again voiced deep concern over Nigeria’s mounting national debt, warning that the country is edging dangerously toward a financial cliff . Obi, known for his consistent advocacy for transparency and fiscal responsibility, criticized the recent approval of massive foreign loans by the National Assembly—reportedly amounting to over $21 billion , €2.2 billion , and ¥15 billion . He emphasized that the current debt trend under the Tinubu administration is unsustainable and could leave future generations burdened with unpayable obligations. WAEC Denies Cancelling 2025 WASSCE Results Amid Viral Rumours

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially debunked claims that it cancelled the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. This comes after a wave of false reports and social media rumours sparked panic among students and parents across Nigeria.

In a statement released today, WAEC described the cancellation rumours as completely untrue, urging candidates and the public to remain calm and ignore the fake information circulating online. The council assured that the marking and collation process for the 2025 WASSCE is currently ongoing, and there has been no disruption or policy change affecting the release of the results.

According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, the council is working round the clock to ensure the timely and accurate release of results, as it has always done in previous years. "We want to categorically state that WAEC has not cancelled the 2025 WASSCE results. The public is advised to disregard any misleading post or information from unverified sources," the official said.

WAEC also warned candidates to be cautious and avoid falling victim to scammers who take advantage of such fake news to extort money from unsuspecting students and parents. The council emphasized that all official updates will be published on their verified social media handles and official website.

In recent years, misinformation on social media has posed a serious challenge to examination bodies and government institutions. This incident highlights the need for students and the public to verify all information before reacting or sharing further.

As it stands, candidates are advised to stay patient, avoid panic, and wait for the official release of their results — which WAEC promises will be announced soon and without issues.
