  Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the fleeing Residential Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State suspended for violating the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 has written to the Inspector General of Police from his hideout. 15-year-old student who fought her teacher in front of class gets one year behind bars

The 15-year-old student who attacked her teacher in front of the entire class has been sentenced to one year behind bars at a youth detention center. Back in January 2023, video footage of the teenager, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, circulated all over social media after she brutally attacked British literature teacher Tiwana Turner at Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia . In the video posted online, the student can be seen yelling in Turner's face and slapping her cell phone out of her hand before the teacher tried to call for help as she walked out of the classroom. When Turner stopped the teen from closing the door on her, a scuffle breaks out and the girl grabs her teacher by her hair and pulls her to the ground. She continues to take several swings at Turner as the tussle carried on while students pulled out their phones to record. NANS gives MultiChoice Seven Days To Reverse Price Hike

  The National Association of Nigerian Students, South-west Zone, has given MultiChoice Nigeria, a seven-day ultimatum to reverse its planned hike on DSTV and GOTV subscription rates. The student association made this known in a statement on Tuesday, signed by its Coordinator, Adejuwon Olatunji, Deputy Coordinator, Alao John, and Public Relations Officer, Opeoluwa Awoyinfa MultiChoice had announced an upward review of prices on its DSTV and GOTV packages by 17 per cent, in text messages sent to its subscribers. It stated that the new rates would take effect on May 1, 2023, explaining that rising costs of business operations was the reason behind the increase. Opposing the subscription hike, NANS said the South African company was bringing hardship on, and extorting Nigerians, without considering their standard of living. The Labour Party acting National Chairman Lamidi Apapa, has denied claims that it approached the presidential election tribunal to withdraw the petition filed by the party's presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.  It was declared in a press statement issued on Wednesday by Dr Arabambi Abayomi, National Publicity Secretary, in response to Julius Abure's camp's claim that a letter emanating from the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the party had asked the court to withdraw Obi's petition against Tinubu. According to the statement, the Lamidi Apapa-led faction challenged Abure and his people to produce any evidence to substantiate their claim, reinstating their support for Obi towards his mission to reclaim his alleged stolen mandate in court. REVEALED: FG spends $1.2m to evacuate Nigerians to Egypt from Sudan

  The Federal Government, on Wednesday, said it has spent $1.2m to deploy 40 buses for the evacuation of about 2,400 stranded Nigerians out of Sudan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Minister said the amount for the evacuation includes the provision of security cover for the eight-hour journey from Luxol to Cairo and the eleven-hour trip from Aswan to Cairo, Egypt. He said that the outcome of the proceedings at the council meeting was overshadowed by plans of the Nigerian government to safely evacuate its citizens from the war-torn sudan.   Some pay television companies in the country have adjusted tariffs, with others expected to do the same as they battle rising operational costs. MultiChoice Nigeria yesterday announced new tariffs, few days after StarTimes, the Chinese-operated television company announce new prices for its packages. MultiChoice Nigeria announced adjustment of prices on both its DStv and GOtv packages via a text message to its subscribers. A sample of the message sent to DStv Premium subscribers’ decoders read: “Dear Customer, due to rising costs of business operations, please note that from May 1, your monthly subscription (Premium) will be N24,500. To retain your old price of N21,000 for up to 12 months ensure you are active by April 30.” The new regime would also see the price on the Compact+ bouquet move to N16,600 from N14, 250 monthly.   The Coordinator of the Campaign Council of Aishatu “Binani” Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Adamawa State governorship election, Vrati Nzonzo has said that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari, declared Binani winner of the election because the Returning Officer, Mohammed Mele “disappeared” when collation resumed on April 16, 2023. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday in defence of Yunusa-Ari, the APC/Binani Campaign Council Coordinator said that “The Returning Officer disappeared.”
