Tinubu Makes Fresh Demand As Tribunal Moves Petition Against President-Elect to Thursday

  A report by Channels TV has it that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked the presidential election tribunal to drop the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging his election victory. At the pre-hearing session on Tuesday, May 9, the APM informed the court that it had filed a pre-hearing information sheet TF 008, and had adopted the answers therein.   The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, affirmed Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the validly elected Governor of Osun State. The apex court, in its lead judgement they were delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, dismissed an appeal that was lodged against Adeleke’s election victory by the former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC. It held that though Oyetola alleged that Adeleke won through over-voting that occurred in 774 polling units in the state, he, however, failed to produce any Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, BVAS, a machine that was used in any of the polling units to prove his allegation. “It is glaring that the Appellant did not provide in evidence, any BVAS, but sought to prove over-voting by means of a report of examination of INEC’s database or backend server”.   The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared May 30, 2023, as a day for compulsory sit-at-home for the Biafra Remembrance Day celebration. The separatist group said every ‘Biafran’ (someone who hails from Southeast Nigeria) must honour those who died in the civil war and Biafra Nation actualisation struggle. IPOB on Monday in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, asked industries, companies, transport companies (air, land and sea), hotels, schools and churches across the Southeast region of Nigeria to shut down in adherence to the order. Brilliant 16-year-old female student emerges overall best in UTME 2023

  Ejikeme Joy , a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School (AGSS) Nnewi, Anambra state, has emerged as the overall best student in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with an aggregate score of 362. Joy’s scores in English Language, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry were broken down as 98%, 89%, 94%, and 81%, respectively. The commissioner of  education  in Anambra state, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, commended her performance, describing it as “excellent and very outstanding”.   The Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned further pre-hearing session on the petition the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi filed to nullify Tinubu’s election victory, till Wednesday. The court equally fixed the same date for another petition by the Action Peoples Party, APP, while it adjourned the case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, till Tuesday. While adjourning the cases, the court urged the parties to identify all the witness statements and documents they would rely on or object to during the actual hearing of the petitions.
