PDP suspends ex-Abia Reps member, Abonta for alleged anti-party activities

Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has warned against the diversion of palliatives given by the Federal Government to states to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy. Mohammed gave the warning at the flag off of distribution of palliatives in the state at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Memorial Stadium, Bauchi, at the weekend, where part of 89,000 25kg bags of rice were shared among Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs). “We will not spare anyone that becomes a clog in the wheel of progress in our efforts to bring succour to the people,” the governor said. Mohammed, who is also a member of the committee set up by the National Economic Council, NEC, to draw the roadmap for the roll-out of Federal Government palliatives, said part of the interventions includes the provision of five trailer loads of rice as well as N5 million to each state in either cash or grains.  Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the head of the judicial arm of government will on Wednesday, September 20, administer oath of office on the newly appointed nine Justices of the Court of Appeal. The new Appellate Court Justices are to be inaugurated at the Main Court auditorium of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. A statement on Sunday by the Supreme Court’s Director of Press and Information, Dr Festus Akande, indicated that the CJN will administer oath of office on the new Court of Appeal Justices by 11:00 am. The new appellate court Justices are: Hannatu Azumi Laja-Balogun from Kaduna State, who was appointed a High Court Judge on 24th May, 1999; Binta Fatima Zubairu from Kaduna State, appointed a High Court Judge on 31st October, 2001; and Peter Chudi Obiora from Anambra State, who was sworn-in as High Court Judge on 17th January, 2005. Flood Sweeps Away Motorcyclist, Displaces Hundreds Of Residents In Lagos

 Many  communities in Lagos State have been submerged by floods, which resulted from heavy downpours that swept away a commercial motorcyclist, more commonly called Okada rider and displaced hundreds of residents. According to a source, a motorcycle rider simply identified as Mr Abe, was swept away on Saturday after he reportedly failed to listen warnings from his colleagues not to ride along the Ile Epo Bus stop canals in the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the heavy rainfall which started at about 2am on Saturday continued till about 2pm, leading to torrential flood that wreaked havoc in several communities in the state including Papa Ashafa and Fashola communities in the Orile-Agege Local Government Area in Alimosho.   The family of the late singer and rapper, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad, has vowed to retrieve all the late musician’s songs and unpaid royalties being held by his former signer, Marlian Music. The family made this known on Saturday in a statement posted on late Mohbad’s Instagram page, saying that before his death, the 27-year-old fast-rising singer on Tuesday was in court to retrieve the majority of his songs and unpaid royalties wrongfully held by Marlian Music owned by popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Naira Marley. The family further stated that they would continue the fight to retrieve his catalog and unpaid royalties so that through them, those he left behind, especially his son; Liam Imole, would be provided for. Road to Wole Soyinka train station in Ogun collapses, residents cry for help

  Various portions of the road leading to the Wole Soyinka Train Station in Ogun State have collapsed, DAILY POST reports. The Wole Soyinka Train Station is one of the 10 stations that make up the 156km Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail commissioned in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, when the state-of-the-art train station was completed by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, government did not take into cognisance, the need to fix the access road that goes to the station. Today, the road has become a nightmare to train users, who are now considering returning to the roads instead of teavelling to Lagos and Ibadan through the railway. When our correspondent visited the train axis on Saturday, it was noticed that the 3km Kenya/Olokuta/Idi-Aba road is in shambles.   The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 297 suspects for illegal possession of firearms, recovered at least 520 several-calibre firearms, 4,043 rounds of ammunition, and 264 stolen vehicles since the assumption of the acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to office. The IG also noted that the NPF would partner with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies to secure the border against insurgents, especially considering the political situation in the Niger Republic following the military coup. Niger: ECOWAS plans fresh sanctions on Burkina Faso, Mali, UN talks fail

The Economic Community of West African States has imposed heavier financial sanctions on the Niger junta and entities supporting them including the governments of Mali and Burkina Faso. The development came after a diplomatic mission by the African Union, ECOWAS, United Nations and the United States to resolve the political impasse in Niger hit a brick wall on Tuesday as the military junta refused to grant audience to the delegations. The military leaders also snubbed the Acting US Deputy Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, and denied her access to the coup leader, Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani and ousted President, Muhammed Bazoum, who was being held in the presidential palace. Some military officers led by Tchiani overthrew Bazoum on July 26 leading to a flurry of sanctions imposed on Niger by ECOWAS to compel them to restore the ousted president to power. The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu State has commenced sitting on the petition filed by the Labour Party and its candidate Chijioke Edeoga against the election of Dr Peter Mbah as the governor of the state after the Sallah break. At the resumed hearing on Friday, the petitioners presented the National Youth Service Corps, as its first witness in defence of their petition. Edeoga and his party are challenging the election of Governor Mbah on grounds that he did not secure the highest lawful votes cast in the March 18 governorship election and that the respondent, submitted a forged NYSC discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission in an effort to secure his election.   The PUNCH had reported that the Tribunal had earlier subpoenaed NYSC following Petitioners’ application to appear before the panel to certify as true or not its document the respondent (Mbah) had submitted to the electoral umpire before the election.
