Police Rescue 38 Cameroonian Nationals Locked in Ogun State Building

In a startling incident that has drawn national attention, the Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued 38 Cameroonian nationals who were found locked up in a building in Mowe, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The rescue operation took place on Sunday, July 6, during a routine patrol by officers of the Mowe Police Division.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the rescued individuals included 22 males and 16 females. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were brought into Nigeria under suspicious circumstances through a scheme called “Quinnet,” which allegedly promised them investment and business opportunities.

The breakthrough came when the police, acting on credible intelligence and suspicious movement in the area, stormed the building and discovered the Cameroonians locked in a confined space. Many of them appeared distressed and confused, unsure of their whereabouts or the intentions of their hosts.

During the operation, a 35-year-old Nigerian man identified as Ndubusi Awareobi, from Anambra State, was arrested at the scene. He is currently being interrogated and is believed to be a key player in the smuggling or trafficking operation.

The Ogun State Police Command has since handed over the rescued victims to the Nigerian Immigration Service for proper documentation and repatriation procedures. Authorities are also working closely with the Cameroonian embassy to ensure the safe return of the victims to their home country.

This case underscores the growing concern over transnational human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking better economic opportunities. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors in Ogun State and have warned the public to beware of fake travel or investment offers.
