  The United States has warned China not to use any visits by U.S. lawmakers to Taiwan as an excuse for military action against the self governing island. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman told an event at the Brookings Institution think tank ok Wednesday, February 15 that the United States was committed to support Taiwan and its ability to defend itself under its one-China policy, adding that all countries should warn Beijing against conflict over the island. Nigerian Corrections Frees 25 Inmates, Tasks Public Against Stigmatization Of Ex-convicts

  Twenty-five inmates in custodial facilities across various commands in the country have been set free by the Nigerian Correctional service after the completion of their time in incarceration. Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, said that those released consist of inmates that have fully served their term and are ready to be reintegrated into society to contribute their quota haven been trained and couched in various vocational skills so they could earn a living. Speaking at the annual release and presentation of aftercare starter kits, yesterday in Abuja, Nababa noted that the act of setting free ex-offenders is in fulfilment of one of the core mandates of reforming offenders and reintegrating them back into society not only as responsible citizens but also as productive citizens adequately empowered. 51-Year-Old father Dies While Fighting His Daughter's School Bus Driver Who She Accused of molesting her

  The father of a 7-year-old pupil of Luyol Schools, Frederick Olorunfemi, died while he was confronting his daughter's school bus driver who she pointed as the person who molested her. Vanguard  reports that the pupil who will turn eight in May, had told her mother that the driver, having conveyed other students to their destinations on the 1st of February, 2023, drove her to his house to have canal knowledge of her. Hearing this, Olurunfemi proceeded to the school with his daughter to speak to the driver, leading to an altercation between them. Consequently, the school bus driver pushed Mr Femi, who fell down and was rushed to a nearby hospital, Osuntuyi Medical Centre where he was confirmed dead. Old naira notes remain legal tender – Supreme Court

In spite of the Central Bank of Nigeria's insistence on old Naira notes no longer being legal tenders, the Supreme Court has ruled that its February 8 order barring the  Federal Government  and its agencies from enforcing the February 10 deadline for the use of old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes still subsist. The ruling was made on Wednesday, February 15, following complaint by lawyer to Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states, Abdulhakeem Mustapha (SAN) that the Federal Government and its agencies have failed to comply with the order and have allegedly directed the rejection of the old notes. Election Will Not Hold In 240 Polling Units – INEC

  The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has stated that election will not hold in 240 polling units across 28 states and Federal Capital Territory. He made this known during a meeting with political parties on Monday. According to him, no voter indicated interest to transfer to those units during the last Continuous Voter Registration due to insecurity, hence the total polling units for elections is now 176,606. He noted that the Commission would make a comprehensive list of these polling units. The INEC Chairman explained, “Let me therefore start with the issue of polling units. You may recall that in 2021, with your support and that of other critical stakeholders, the Commission successfully expanded voter access to polling units 25 years after the last delimitation exercise in 1996.   Former vice-president and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on Monday commended the Department of State Services,   DSS, for inviting Fani-Kayode , FFK. The Special Projects and New Media Director of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, is expected to substantiate his comment about Atiku and the military. Fani-Kayode had alleged they had a secret meeting recently, mentioning a possible coup plot ahead of the general elections. The Defence Headquarters condemned the claim. A family at Ndwaci village, Gatundu North of Kiambu County, Kenya, has expressed fear over an alleged invasion of dark forces. The family claim they've been terrorized by evil spirits for weeks, leaving them and fellow villagers in distress. They claim the unseen spirits have been throwing all sorts of objects at them including pounding a family member with stones, strangling him and using him to cause quarrels. The family of Patrick Kinyungu also said that when they cook, it is poisoned using large-sized white tablets, a situation that has seen them go for days without a meal. They also claimed that their clothes are often torched while in a basket, but the fire's source has never been established.
