  A policewoman, Fauzziyah Ebunoluwa Isiak, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of detaining her in inhuman conditions after she tried to resign from the service in which she had spent six years . Fauzziyah who relayed her account via a series of tweets on Thursday said she was subjected to several discomforting situations behind the bars. She said, “I never saw this coming. I have never thought I'll be put in detention without interrogation. All I did was try to resign. 95-year-old woman with dementia dies after being Tasered by police at care home

  A 95-year-old great-grandmother has died in hospital as the police officer who allegedly Tasered her at an aged care facility was charged with three offences. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate, seeking the approval of the request to pay the judgement debt in the sum of $566,754,584.31, £98,526,012.00 and N226,281,801,881.64 owed by the Federal government.   Nigerian and other international students have been  banned from  bringing family members to the UK unless they are on PhD courses , in a crackdown announced by country's Home Secretary, Suella Braverman ahead of expected record immigration statistics. Under current rules, only students enrolling on full-time, postgraduate courses lasting nine months or longer can bring family members with them to the UK. Those students can bring their partner and any children under the age of 18, and must prove they have at least £680 per month to support each of their dependents.   The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC has upheld the position of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Atiku Abubakar on the consolidation of the three petitions challenging the qualifications and declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election. The Court in the pre-hearing session report presented on Tuesday by Justice Stephen Jonah Ada announced the consolidation of the three petitions instituted by Atiku, Peter Obi of the Labour Party LP and the Allied People’s Movement APM. The Court agreed with Atiku’s lawyers that given the time-bound nature of the petitions, especially for expeditious hearing purposes, it was proper and appropriate to merge them in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.   As many Nigerians continue to wallow in hardship, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, state governors, and their deputies may have enjoyed about N651.2m hardship allowance in the last eight years the Buhari regime, according to findings by The PUNCH. The type of allowance, which is 50 per cent of the annual basic salary, is also enjoyed by judges in the country. However, The PUNCH report focuses on the amount allocated for the president, vice president, state governors, and their deputies, according to a document obtained from the website of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission. The RMAFC document disclosed that the president is entitled to N1.76m annually as a hardship allowance. This means that within a period of eight years, Buhari would have earned N14.08m as hardship allowance. FG To Spend N22.44 Billion On Feeding Prisoners

  The Federal Government has disclosed that a total of N22.4 billion would be spent on feeding  prison  inmates across correctional centres in the country. The proposed expenses are already budgeted for in the 2023 Appropriation Act. Speaking at a two-day High Conference on Decongestion and Corrections Management held in Abuja, the nation’s capital city, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior,  Dr Shuaib Belgore , highlighted that there has been a steady rise in the population of the custodial centres with at least 80% of the inmates awaiting trial. According to him, there are 244 custodial centres nationwide, with a 75,507-inmate population, thereby leading to 82 of them being overcrowded. The total number of male inmates is 73,821 and female 1,686 female inmates, he noted. Barely a month ago, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) disclosed that no fewer than 3,298 inmates across the custodial centres in Nigeria are on death row.   The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing in the suit filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra demanding the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to September 14.'  The group had approached the court on November 3, 2022, with a lawsuit challenging the continued detention of its leader who was arrested in July 2021.  The self-determination agitator had filed an appeal at the apex court against the Court of Appeal’s verdict stopping his release from the DSS custody. Kanu appealed against the Oct. 28, 2022 decision of the appellate court, which stayed the execution of its earlier order acquitting him of all charges and directing his release from the custody of the secret police. Prior to the hearing, Kanu’s Special Counsel had urged the Supreme Court to ensure justice in the trial of his client.
