Blackout looms as Nigerian electricity workers join labour unions’ planned strike

  The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has directed its members to commence full mobilisation to ensure compliance with the directive of the Nigerian labour unions to embark on an indefinite strike. Nigeria’s organised labour had declared an indefinite nationwide strike to pressure the government to address the hardships associated with fuel subsidy removal. The NUEE in a notice signed by its acting general secretary, Dominic Igwebike, on Thursday, urged its members to comply with the directive and stop work from the early hours of Tuesday. The NUEE members’ strike could throw the country into darkness, given the workers’ critical roles in electricity distribution in the country. IPOB Bans Independence Day Celebrations In Southeast, Caution Govs, Leaders

  The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has placed a ban on Nigeria’s October 1st independence anniversary celebrations across the Southeast. IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, urged people of the Southeast to shun the Independence Day celebration in the region. Powerful claimed that the Nigerian state detests Igbos and has rejected all efforts to treat people of the Southeast equally. In a statement signed by Powerful, IPOB urged state governors and political leaders to shun the October 1st independence day celebration across the Southeast. BREAKING: NLC, TUC declare nationwide strike

  The organised labour unions, comprising the Trade Union Congress, TUC, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have declared an indefinite strike effective from October 3, 2023. TUC President, Festus Osifo declared the strike at a joint press conference also attended by the President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero in Abuja on Tuesday. Ajaero, who spoke first, carpeted the Federal Government over what he described as lackadaisical stance to address demands raised by the unions since the subsidy removal policy took effect. Wike Gives Three Months Grace To 189 Plot Owners In Abuja

  The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),   Nyesom Wike   has given a three-month grace period for 189 titleholders, who have obtained building plan approvals but are yet to commence development on their property. APC Forum Warns Wike Against Actions Inimical To Party, Region’s Interests

  The North Central APC Forum, under the aegis of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against taking any actions or making moves inimical to the interest of the party or the North Central region. NDLEA Nabs Oman-Bound Passenger With Drugs At MMIA, Intercepts 5 Pregnant Girls

  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted fresh attempts by members of some transnational drug trafficking organisations to export various quantities of methamphetamine and skunk through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, and courier companies in Lagos. This is even as NDLEA announced that an intending passenger, Ugwu Peter Tochukwu, was arrested with drugs while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Oman on Tuesday. The anti-narcotic agency explained that 7.50 kilograms of skunk were discovered concealed inside crayfish mixed with dry bitter leaf upon a thorough search of the suspect’s luggage. Police Appeal For Calm As Communal Clash Looms Between Osun Communities

  The Osun State Police Command has appealed to indigenes of Ilobu and Ifon Orolu communities to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their hands over the killing of one Sodiq Alamu. It was reported that 28 year old Alamu was killed along Opapa village in Ilobu on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Alamu hailed from Aganna compound in Ilobu, Irepodun local government area of Osun State. The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the police was aware of the incident and assured that investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances which led to Alamu’s death. Road to Wole Soyinka train station in Ogun collapses, residents cry for help

  Various portions of the road leading to the Wole Soyinka Train Station in Ogun State have collapsed, DAILY POST reports. The Wole Soyinka Train Station is one of the 10 stations that make up the 156km Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail commissioned in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, when the state-of-the-art train station was completed by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, government did not take into cognisance, the need to fix the access road that goes to the station.
