CAF to Unveil New WAFCON Trophy Ahead of Morocco 2025 Tournament

In a significant move to promote women's football across Africa, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced plans to unveil a brand-new trophy for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The official unveiling will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, just days before the tournament kicks off in Morocco on July 5.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe, in partnership with TotalEnergies—the title sponsor of the tournament—will preside over the trophy launch ceremony. The event will include a digital showcase in the afternoon and a sponsor-led celebration in the evening. This unveiling represents a bold step by CAF to rebrand and elevate the prestige of the continent’s most celebrated women’s football tournament.

This year’s edition of WAFCON promises to be bigger and better. Scheduled to run from July 5 to 26, the tournament will feature 12 national teams vying for the new silverware. Notably, CAF has nearly doubled the prize money for the event, raising it from $975,000 to $2.4 million—a clear statement of commitment to women’s sports development.

Football fans are eagerly awaiting the opening match between hosts Morocco and Zambia at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. The introduction of a new trophy adds to the excitement, signaling a new era for women’s football on the continent.

CAF’s decision is part of a wider initiative to enhance professionalism, visibility, and support for female athletes in Africa. According to officials, the new trophy symbolizes strength, ambition, and the growing global recognition of African women in sports.

As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on Morocco as it prepares to host what may become the most successful and widely watched WAFCON tournament to date.

Stay tuned for updates and match results as the action unfolds!
