Peter Obi Says Northern Nigeria Will Celebrate Under His Presidency

In a recent statement that has sparked discussions across Nigeria, former presidential candidate Peter Obi declared that Northern Nigeria will celebrate if he becomes president. Obi made this bold assertion while addressing journalists and supporters during a public event, where he emphasized unity, equity, and development for all regions of the country.

Obi, who ran on the platform of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, continues to be a vocal advocate for good governance and inclusive leadership. He argued that his administration would prioritize the needs of all Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious, or regional affiliations. His remarks were aimed at dispelling misconceptions that his political ambition is mainly backed by the South-East.

According to Obi, “Northern Nigeria has suffered just as much, if not more, from the mismanagement and insecurity plaguing our nation. Under my leadership, the North will witness massive development, economic empowerment, and security reforms that will uplift millions.”

He highlighted the vast agricultural potential in the North and promised to invest heavily in modern farming, irrigation, and rural infrastructure to boost food production and reduce poverty. Obi also stressed the need for education reform, especially in the North-East and North-West regions where school dropout rates remain high due to insecurity and poverty.

This statement comes as political alliances begin to form ahead of the 2027 general elections. Many observers believe Obi is positioning himself as a national leader capable of bridging Nigeria’s deep regional divides.

While reactions have been mixed, with some praising his inclusive message and others questioning its sincerity, it is clear that Obi’s vision for Nigeria continues to resonate with a large segment of the population — especially among the youth and progressive voters.

Only time will tell if Northern Nigeria will indeed "celebrate" under a Peter Obi presidency.

A Nigerian woman, identified as @dunchichi on Twitter, has been reportedly sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a social media post, showing how some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained at Dubai international airport.  On August 31, Lar had taken to her  Twitter  page to share photos and videos of herself and other people she identified as Nigerians being detained at the Dubai international airport.
